Crunchgear is after causing a bit of a stir after it reported on Google’s intent to follow Apple into the mobile phone market with the launch of Google Switch. Or so the rumour goes.
An insider has leaked this photograph of a mobile device to which Google is accredited to be developing with Samsung and Orange.

Google have over the years aquired a few telecommunications companies as they make strides in the VoIP world. But could they now be ready to do battle with Apple for the consumer mobile phone market?
I would love to see Google wander into mobiles. So far I haven’t been impressed with the iPhone spec. It’s going to retail in Ireland for approx €500 and it doesn’t even allow you to record motion! Apple have also put a halt on third parties developing software for it. Madness! I’m sure over time Apple will get the mix right and release a phone worthy of the Apple name, but that will probably be by the third revision at least.

Some rumoured features of the Switch phone include VoIP ability, instant messaning and live video playback (hello youtube). I’m sure Google will pile other elements of their family into this mobile device. Google Earth evolves into GPS? Google Documents provides a office suite on your phone…the oppurtunity is there. It’s only a matter of time…
Google and its partners have failed to comment on Switch so expect to see it in shops by mid 2008!
