The Return of the Wire.

Official trailer (no spoilers):

The critically acclaimed ‘Wire’ returns with its final season in January on HBO. I got into The Wire last year and I have to say it’s the best TV drama ever produced. It’s better than The Sopranos. Better than NYPD Blue. Better than One Foot in the Grave. Better than anything ever filmed.

The TV show focuses on the city of Baltimore and the battle for the streets between the Baltimore PD and the city’s drug dealers.

Season 1 of The Wire can be picked up in HMV for about €30 at the moment. If you’re into good TV then you should get into The Wire. It’s as simple as that.

On a side note…Stephen King recently said that the character of ‘Snoop’ Pearson is the most terrifying character he has ever seen. Snoop is a ’soldier’ working for one of the drug gangs. Her character is actually based on a real life person. Herself. The Baltimore native did a few years for murder and found herself acting as herself in The Wire a few months after her release. Check out this scene (no spoiler in this video) where she is buying a ‘tool of the trade’.

It can be a bit hard to follow some of the character’s accents and it can be difficult to understand some of the street talk. But that’s one of the things which make this one of the best TV shows ever made. Its authenticity.

It’s good but better than Sopranos… come on!

Yup. Better than the Sopranos. The Sopranos labored a bit for me. It lost its edge or something.

I like the gritty side of The Wire.

The character development in The Wire is far superior to that of The Sopranos too.

But we all have our opinions. I’m not saying that The Sopranos is a bad show or anything. Just that I think The Wire is better :)

I just started watching this about a month ago. I just finished Season 3 last week. And I agree, it is absolutely the best show I’ve ever seen, even better than the Sopranos, which I would have previously regarded as possibly the best show I’ve seen.
