Beirut aka Zach Condon

September 1st, 2007 by Cormac Moylan · 7 Comments

Beirut is the musical handle of 21 year old American singer songwriter Zach Condon. Zach travelled around Eastern Europe for a bit after he dropped out of school at the age of 16 (as you do when you’re 16). The music he is producing is very heavily influenced by eastern European gypsy folk and contains a lot of orchestral ensembles…and stuff.

Basically if you like music from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Cat Stevens, George Harrison and Bell X1 then you should be a happy little camper listening to some of Beirut’s stuff.

Here is his debut video; Elephant Gun, taken from his debut album ‘The Flying Club Cup’. Enjoy!

    Eh, his third album actually.

The Elephant Gun is from this 2nd EP according to the wiki entry. So we each made a mistake then.

It will also be on the third album.

His second album was recently leaked and it’s not on that. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to wait at minimum another year before putting an old song on a new album..

I thought Gulag Orkestar was the first album, and that there was an EP before and after that (Pompeii and Lon Gisland)? Could be wrong though. I really like new new record, possibly more than Gulag (which was damn good!)

    Hi,
I’m only getting into his stuff myself but I was going on what was on his wiki (even though I got it wrong when I typed my post), his wiki page is probably right. (i think)

Gulag Orkestar id the first album, Pompeii the first EP and Lon Gisland the 2nd Ep.

You can get Gulag & Lon Gisland together on Amazon for about 15 quid.

Money well spent. great sunday morning with a hangover and a fag music..
