Hi, my name is Cormac and this is my blog. On the web circa July 2006.

What I listened to in ‘07

January 12th, 2008 by Cormac Moylan · 8 Comments

Around this time of year the usual ‘Top 10′ lists appear. I don’t have the energy to put together my own Top 10 Albums of 2007, instead I will list the albums which I listened to in 2007. Here they are:

Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus!
Cathy Davey - Tales of Silversleeve
Bent - Intercept (Breakfast at 80,000 feet)
Air - Pocket Symphony
Ian Brown - The World is Yours
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Fiest - The Reminder
Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew - Spirit If..
PJ Harvey - White Chalk
Daft Punk - Alive 2007
Interpol - Our Love to Admire
Editors - An End Has A Start
Justice - Cross
Go Team! - Proof of Youth
Matthew Herbert - Score
Rosin Murphy - Overpowered
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Elliott Smith - New Moon
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Bjork - Volta
Gruff Rhys - Candylion
Kings of Leon - Youth And Young Manhood
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Stars - Do You Trust Your Friends?
Bierut - The Flying Club Cup
Matt Pond PA - Last Night

The top picks of the bunch are Cathy Davey’s second album - Tales of Silversleeve, Bent’s fantastic Intercept album (released in Dec of 2006 (susssh!), Ian Brown’s The World is Yours, Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga album and the SFA’s ‘acousticy’ Hey Venus!

I wasn’t impressed at all with Rosin Murphy’s tracks on Overpowered or The Editor’s second album. Neither lived up the hype which surrounded both of those artists’ debut albums.

Best video of the year, without a doubt, is Justice’s D.A.N.C.E. Unfortunately everything else on their album was fairly pants. This song & video makes up for all of the other tracks on their album.

I didn’t listen to much hip-hop in 2007. I can’t actually recall any album or artist which I listened to.

As for 2008, here’s hoping that Royksopp and Common have a few releases.

Been waiting for this post for a LONG time. You have given me so much music in the past year it is unbelievable. Looking forward to checking out some of the stuff I have not already.

    Cheers Cormac!

    Cheers Dave.

I was going to put a lot more work in the above post. I was actually thinking of making a podcast featuring a song from each of the albums listed above but unfortunately I don’t have the time.

    * Royksopp are releasing a Back to Mine compilation in March. The track-listing is up on their website. It looks immense. Can’t wait for that to hit the shelves *

ah thats the video you’ve been on to me to watch for the last 2 weeks. I had seen that ages ago alright, the name of the band / song was escaping me though!

I really liked this video by Hadouken: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80ZlWeZlXHk

hey man…sounds like a really cool list u’ve got there…i really liked the radiohead, arcade fire, daft punk, spoon, and matt pond pa picks (although the album is called last light…not last night…typo…no biggie)…what was ur fav. track on that album, mine would have to have been either taught to look away or basement parties…

btw…have u checked out common’s latest release…finding forever..and rumor has it, he might be putting out a new album this year, called my resurrection

    Hi Rob, thanks.
I haven’t paid too much attention to the tracklisting on Matt Pond’s album. But I think the 4th or 5th track is the one I listen to must. I much prefer his first album though.

I haven’t heard Common’s album at all. I didn’t even know he released anything. The last album of his I picked up was Be.

I hear ya…wild girl and honestly (track 4 and 5 respectively) are really rad tracks…it certainly is a departure from their earlier works…but i like the progression their making in their songwriting…

the new common album is really good, you should check it out…hopefully the one he comes out with this year is just as good, but then again, i’m sure it’ll be great
