Chris has made my day by pointing out that my favourite ftp client is making its debut on the MAC. Filezilla!

There are only a handful of applications I have really missed since I converted to Apple from Windows. uTorrent, gTalk and Winamp are still MIA on the MAC but I never got over loosing out on Filezilla. The three applications I mentioned can all be replaced by Azureus, Adium and Songbird but the ftp clients available on the MAC….well, they’re not a patch on Filezilla. Transmit 3, Cyberduck and Fugu are all currently installed, but not for long more! I suppose Transmit 3 was the best out of the lot but it costs $29 for the full version after a 16 day trial or however long it is.
Filezilla has the all the functionality of its PC sister, the ability to upload/download, do things with files..eh..not much else to it really! The only thing that is causing a issue with me is the design of it. Maybe its just because I’m so used to seeing it under a Windows based GUI but the MAC version is very graphically tacky looking, especially with the navigation buttons.

Hopefully the design will improve as it comes out of beta.
Filezilla is also available no Linux! More great news! Take a gander of Chris’ screenshot of it in action under Ubuntu.

Thanks much for the links.
I’ve since also found that they’ve ported FileZilla to linux! Finally I have a decent FTP client to use. gFTP is fine, but the power of multiple file transfer is really useful when you’re trying to fire over a whole bundle of small files.
Hi Jettero,
I don’t know what I would do without Fillzilla on Mac. It’s a bit buggy though, I would presume that the Linux version is too. Even in its buggy state it is twice as good as the alternatives. It can only get better.
Thanks fillzilla is great!

I have down loaded Filezilla and opened it a number of times. Each time when I click on the icon a message pos up saying it is incomplete or corrupted. As a new Mac convert, I really miss Filezilla. Any ideas why this is happening or how to over come it?
Brian,
You should be downloading this file

Thanks Cormac, but it still does the same thing. I am using Stuffit to open it and it comes up the same. I am running Mac 10.3.9 on a three year old G5. Any other suggestions?
By the way, love the speed of the G5 combined with my Dell 24 Hi-Def monitor. Things were never this good with Mr. Gates…
Ah, Didn’t realise you’re on a G5. You’ll need to download the PowerPC version of the beta in that case.
Have fun
Has anybody moved their “Site Manager” from the PC side to Mac side? I moved the filezilla.xml with no luck.
Hi Rory, can’t say I have. I just my new accounts when I migrated from Windows to Mac.
I like the newer versio. but I´ve gpt so many problems on use it!
and I´d like to see more guides been published about it
Whatever happened to Brian on his G5 running Panther?
Or is there something I don’t know about coercing FZ on 10.3.9?
If there is, please tell me, as I am desperate for a good ftp program that will work with broadband but don’t have time to install and debug a WHOLE new system just to do this.
