Finally Microsoft deliver my free Vista & Office CD!

March 26th, 2007 by Cormac Moylan · 1 Comment

Promised in December that it would be delivered in February and then mutters about a early March delivery date…Well, the wait is finally offer because Microsoft have successfully over-come any complications in placing four CDs into a brown pacakge and placing in the out tray. It was touch and go for a while but after approx four phone calls and endless e-mails they managed it!

But to be fair to Microsoft they didn’t need to provide any software for free. A free copy of Vista Ultimate Edition and Office 2007 is not to be sniffed and I’m very pleased and thanfull for Microsoft for the software. Not many companies would go to the bother. They even threw in two copies of Vista, a 32 and 64 bit version. Thanks Microsoft.

I’m not 100% sure that Vista Ultimate Edition will run on my PC though. Here is the spec:

# 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
# 1 GB of system memory
# 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
# Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
* WDDM Driver
* 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
* Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
* 32 bits per pixel

I have all that covered, but I hear that Vista is a real slouch if you don’t give it its fill of technology. Below is my a summary of the full spec of my machine.

According to the Vista Spec Application which detects if your PC is suitable for Vista…

I’m going to backup all my XP files and throw on Vista this evening. Hopefully it will take it but if it doesn’t I’ll simply upgrade the motherboard, processor and graphics card….and power supply because my PSU is fairly tame anyway. Mmm, expensive. I’m in no rush anyway as Mac OSX is my machine of choice at the moment.
