What is Joost?
Joost (pronounced ‘juiced’) is an interactive software for distributing TV shows and other forms of video over the Web using peer-to-peer TV technology, created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis (founders of Skype and Kazaa).
Currently, the software is in beta-testing stage. A beta invite is required to join the Joost community. Just as when Gmail was invite only, a few sites have appeared for the community to trade invitations for items, or money.
I received an invite a few weeks ago for Joost. I installed it (compatible with both Mac and Windows) and I haven’t really used it much since then. I haven’t had the time to explore its features. It’s going to be big though. Ken has posted about Joost this morning and it was his post which reminded me of the invitations I have in my tank. (I robbed the image he used as well)
I have three invitations to give to three lucky commenters on this blog post. Who wants an invitation to try Joost Beta? First post, first serve basis.
Update
I have sent out my invites to Jawele, Mick and also to Dave Davis. David Rooney has forfeited his invitation to Dave Davis because his system isn’t capable of running Joost.
Guys, if you didn’t receive the invite let me know because I can track the invitations via the Joost admin panel.
As far as I can see Joost will send you guys an email which allows you each to invite 3 friends in approximately a months time. Gavin seems to be very upset that he didn’t get an invite so if you get an email titled ‘A gift from Joost, 3 invitations for your friends’ be sure to ignore any request from Gavin. (joking!)

The install program is a load of bollox, after you install it your told you don’t have the right Direct X and video memory. I installed the latest Direct X and I don’t have 3mb of video memory.

Dave, I presume your laptop has a single 512 or 1024mb of RAM but no dedicated RAM for graphics? Can you alter the ratio so that more of your RAM is used for graphics than what it is currently set to?

Glad you got some invites Cormac ! There are some good shows on Joost , the poker one, the Guinness World record attempts, the worlds strongest man and Bridezillas.
Do remember to totally turn it off when you are not using it, as it runs a P2P when it is on the task bar.

It won’t be for another few days before anyone can join Joost, but the company has officially announced that it is launching commercially. Starting today, existing beta testers can now invite anyone to join Joost.
Beta testers visit the “Invite Friends” widget in the “My Joost” area of Joost, they will be able to invite anyone they know to the Joost community. Both new and existing users can download a new version of Joost today.
