The worst refereeing decision ever made?

September 14th, 2007 by Cormac Moylan · 6 Comments

Hungary took on Turkey in the EURO qualifiers recently and the below clip is probably the worst bit of refereeing I have ever seen.

So, do you still feel sorry for Stephen Hunt? Zoltan Gera got it a lot worse. Turkey went on to win 3-0 against the 10 men of Hungary. If the referee had a clue he would have sent off the goalkeeper for the challenge and awarded the penalty to Hungary. Soccer has gone to shit in general. I’m so fed up of watching this kind of crap. Hop-Scotch is where it’s at I tell’s ya! … that or Rugby.

Yep that was a pretty bad decision.

Worst I’ve ever seen was this one from the 1982 world cup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coSfMSUSVPI

No foul given and Battiston was stretchered off unconscious and suffered spinal injuries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Battiston

I don’t usually use the term OMFG, but, well… OMFG!

lol the ref totally pwned him… lulz etc.

Perhaps you should take up interest in Formula 1 racing. The ratings are so bad theyve introduced a spy story line.

Jaysus, that was so unfair!! Blatant foul, what was the ref thinking?

Same with Hunt, he deserved a yellow (in todays game) not a red. The minute I saw who was ref in the game I just knew it was going to be a bad night…..

On both occassions, I think if the ref’s had any decent experience of playing football, they would have made different decisions.

Both decisions were made against the away teams too. The ref in the Irish game must have been influenced by the constant booing of Hunt. The Turks can provide a bit of a hostile atmosphere too of course!

One of the lads in work, from Prague, was saying that Hunt’s face was plastered all over their tabloids before the game with captions such as ‘Public Enemy Number 1′ and so forth as a result of his challenge on Cech a few months ago.

    That’s nice!

Well there ye go! How could he have ever got away with a tackle like that.

That ref is poor though - can’t think of his name, horrible long one. :)
