Nokia make mobile phones. Nokia make a LOT of mobile phones. Nokia generally make a lot of really good mobile phones. The Nokia E65 for the most part is a great little phone…..but only if you shave regularly!
The people employed within Nokia’s product testing department must be a bunch of clean shaven chaps or something. How else could they pass the E65 as being fit for general usage?
What’s my problem?
Every time I answer the phone, the keypad area on the Nokia E65 rips clunks of my stubble from my cheek! The buttons on the phone double up as razors! If I wanted a shave I would have used a razorblade, not my phone!

What do Nokia have against those of us who don’t shave regularly?
Does anyone else have a Nokia E65? Are you experiencing the same problems as myself?

I have the N95 and I very rarely shave but I haven’t had this problem, it is nearly the same in look and style.

Me Me! I have this issue. It’s one of the only things I didn’t like about the phone. I find my beard just catches one or two hairs in the gap between the left/right selection keys (or the call/hangup keys) and the surround.
Really very painful.
You are not alone. This is a definite problem - they obviously don’t do quality control tests with us beardies.
What’s worse is that both my business partner and I have now got the E65 after switching from Vodafone to Three (reception issues). I had the E65 a few months back, before unceremoniously dumping it in a toilet. I’m glad to get it back for the wi-fi and nice functionality, but I had kind of forgotten about the beard pain.
Damn.

Those bastards! Can’t believe they fucked up so badly as they did.
Alex, do you use your phone as an alarm? The previous phone I used came with a cool alarm which allowed me to choose which days for the alarm to go off on (Mon to Fri basically). The new phone doesn’t have this feature.
I have to manually set the alarm each evening. Pain in the arse so it is.

Heh. If you had a beard you’d understand the pain it causes. It’s a nice phone though. Best one I’ve ever had - love having wi-fi.

Also, if you’re missing out on having an auto-lock feature, get this:

It is a FEATURE. Version 1 feature though so they have some work to do on it. By Version 15 it should be working well and you’ll never have to shave again.

You know, you might be on to something there. Better patent the idea before Gillette bring out their new “Gillette Sensor Supreme 18+3 blade multimedia mobile phone razor blade”…

hehe, I’ll bet it plays the music through your teeth.
(Can’t patent it now, I have made the idea public ;))

Speaking as a hairy N73 user I never had this problem. I just did a little test with it there now and noticed if I repositioned the phone up against my face at a lower angle I did get some slight snagging. I vote for “it must be an angle thing”

yeah I haven’t had this problem with any Nokia phone to date but I had problems with the zip on my new jacket catching my stubble.
12 Alex Leonard // Jan 14, 2008 at 4:04 pm
It just happened to me again - first time since I got my new E65. It’s definitely a problem.
I have some photos of my beard at its longest, from about 2 years ago. It’s not so long at the moment though.
@matu: when I start catching the beard in my jacket zipper, it’s usually a good indication that it’s time to shave.
@paul: Does this mean that Gillette can’t patent the idea either? We could create the world’s first open source razor phone - unless Motorolla have plans for their razr series…

@alex. Yup. It is public knowledge now and so not an innovation of theirs. Unless Gilette already have a patent that we don’t know about (likely, they have patented everything but food, water, air and boobs.)
And that is one Leprechaun like beard man!

Designed by 12 year olds?

Me too! You can get your finger nail in the gap that runs around the whole key panel and feel how sharp it is! Now I have to put one hand on the side of my face when I answer the phone. More than one client has had to hear me shout “Ow!” for no apparent reason!

You know, I was just thinking about this yesterday, how I might go on a rant on my own blog about this.
It’s driving me mad! Practically every call my beard catches in it at some point.

I’m thinking of ditching the phone fairly soon. I’m not happy with the design or the OS on it. Samsung Soul looks tasty!
