This week I’m going to be testing out some releavantly unknown browsers. AOL Explorer, Maxthon and Flock are all getting a spin while I leave Opera and Firefox in the garage.
I have been becoming increasingly frustrated with Firefox in recent weeks. It is getting slower, taking up more and more resources, crashing and is just acting like a prat in general. My migration to Opera is nearing but I’m going to check out some others this week.
If anyone wants to recommend an alternative browser which I haven’t mentioned then please do in the comments.
I use IE7 at work and I have so far found it to be excellent but I’m wary of installing it on my home PC as IE6 is still the most popular browser. This of course is a major consideration for web development. I have posted a thread on the Irish webmaster forum asking for some information regarding using IE6 and IE7 on the same system.

I’m not 100% on this now but I’m pretty sure that you cant have completely different installs of the two browsers. IE7 will upgrade certain components within the OS which will then be used by both IE6 and IE7. I tried to do it on my work machine and it ran fine until we realised that IE6 wasnt actually behaving the way it should and was using those components from the new version.
You’ll notice the second you install IE7 that the fonts and overall look of websites improves drastically. If you then go and use IE6 you will see the same improvement in that browser too. I’m not sure if some smart bloke has figure out a different hack for it by now though.

I have heard that the two cause a problem alright when installed via hacks and all that. Hopefully someone will have solved this problem by now. You’re subscribed to my comments so if I find out…you’ll find out too
