Pet hate; Stupid Forms

October 16th, 2007 by Cormac Moylan · 9 Comments

If I’m living in Ireland, why do I need to choose an American state?

Stupid Form

Thanks for the crap user experience, Crucial. This type of form behaviour really gets my goat. If I’m allowed to pick any country in the world then either disable the requirement for me to choose a US State or provide me with a drop down of Ireland’s counties straight away in its place.

I wonder how many abandoned shopping carts they get as a result of people getting confused and presuming that they only deliver within the States and not elsewhere?

Oh, and the ZIP/Postal code thing annoys me too. What if I don’t have one? 000000 then!

Absolute pain in the ass. A bit like signing up for a Yahoo account. It won’t let me sign-up without a post code. I don’t have a post code.

Is that on the crucial EU site??

  • 4 Cormac // Oct 17, 2007 at 7:39 am

No, it was on crucial.com (US). Didn’t check their EU site.

You can’t order from crucial.com if you’re in the EU. You have to use their EU site.

I couldn’t agree more. So many companies just don’t seem to consider that postal systems work differently elsewhere.

My other similar pet hate is the difficulties I often encounter when trying to order from the UK… “Ireland, oh, well that’s going to cost a lot more to ship to, it’s international after all”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that we’re a separate nation to the UK, but I’m fairly sure An Post offers rates to Ireland, UK, Europe, Rest of World.

Michele you can order off either it would seem. There is an EU site but I ordered in dollars and was never transferred to the EU site after using the order form. They have international postage from crucial.com.

Yeah, and it is more of a problem living in Ireland, we don’t seem to be a big enough market for anyone to give a toss about.

American companies can be so ignorant to the fact that other nations exist somewhere outside of their country.

They don’t even know how to speak or spell English! Where the hell did the letter Z come of out, eh? They need to organize themselves!
