Netvibes goes Ginger

Netvibes Ginger
My RSS reader of choice, Netvibes, is soon to release their Ginger version. After taking a quick look at their impressive promotion page, Ginger is set to merge all your social networking faces into a single entity…, or so the marketing ‘guff’ says. How they do that successfully remains to be seen.

Many sites interact with APIs and the like to bring elements of the interface and some level of interaction to the forefront. So that’s nothing new. But Netvibes seem to doing a bit of a song and a dance about Ginger… What are they doing different?

I have received my invitation code and I’m waiting for my upgrade to be complete. The screenshots and videos which are available on the promo Ginger page look very impressive. Hopefully I will know by tomorrow if Ginger delivers.

    Hey Cormac..

    Check out Alertle (www.alertle.com) - its a rather fresh way of reading RSS feeds. Some liked it better than Netvibes / Google Reader ;)

    yeah Cormac…I’m one of the geeks behind Alertle…should have mentioned it on the previous comment. My bad.

    I was frankly frustrated with all the other RSS readers out there…thus spent some time making Alertle :)

    If you are interested in Netvibes as a RSS reader, it’ll be interesting to see what you think of Alertle..

    Had Netvibes Ginger access for awhile now (along with Chris) and it is underwhelming. Most of the new features are too techy to be really useful.

    Yeah, Chris actually showed me his public Netvibes profile a few months back and it never clicked with me that what he was actually showing me was Ginger.

    The publication feed date and starring looks nice but besides from that, there isn’t much else on offer.
