What are the shortcomings of Wordpress?

December 19th, 2006 by Cormac Moylan · 1 Comment

I have been hacking away for a while now at Wordpress and even though i love it I found myself getting fairly fustrated at simple things which you would think would be featured by now.

Things such as the lack of subscriptions to follow up comments on posts. The lack of a database recovery tool. The lack of an import system which allows you to import data from another Wordpress installation. The lack of control over the category order of category items and pages. Why isn’t there a feature to embed code into your posts for demonstration purposes? God knows how many developers and coders use Wordpress!

I know one of the major benefits of WP is its robustness in a simple form but the features I mentioned above are pretty much essential in any blog or content management system.

So what other elements does Wordpress lack in your opinion?

They really should develop a fully fledged CMS version of Wordpress to cater for the demand which is evident from the sucsess of the plugins that are availabe on their site.

They have a massive market share in blogs but they don’t seem to be trying to evolve their systems for other usage.
