Wordpress have publicly released version 2.7 as a beta 1 release. I decided to take the plunge and I have just finished upgrading this blog to 2.7. First impressions are pretty good. It’s a lot more functional than the previous version. A lot of core functions have been surfaced to the dashboard and it seems that everything is accessible in two clicks of your mouse. A few screenshots were post on the WP blog some weeks back.
An interesting new feature is one that automatically updates your Wordpress installation when a new release is made available.
Wordpress will be releasing 2.7 proper come the end of November.

The auto-update is easily the best reason to get this. Man, FTPing into my blog every few weeks to update Wordpress is a PITA.
I likey very much. Looks good, but we all know how looks can be.
I think I’ll take da plunge too.
this is definately a must, looks easier…but i may be wrong…
How are you finding it, Cormac? Had it for a few days now and I’m thinking of going back to 2.6 or finding new blog software. I’m not liking the new admin UI. More like an app. with everything stuffed onto one page. I keep putting tags into the trackback/ping box now.
I’ve only used it once, to create this blog post. So I’m not in a position to comment about it. I hated the previous admin panel and my initial reaction to the new one was positive so I am willing to stick it out.
A nasty admin panel wouldn’t make me change blog system though. But I might change to a RoR one such as Mephisto or something.
I have never upgraded my Wordpress . . . is that a smooth process, or are there some things that I should be cautious of?
I am curious to see some more reviews of 2.7 before I update though!
Praise the lord, an auto update of WP. Very handy feature. It certainly looks like an improvement. The stats screenshot looks nice. Im tempted to upgrade now, but an upgrade of wp also means an upgrade of plugins, which can be a can of worms.
How will the auto update of wp handle plugin compatibility?
