Wordpress Stats is the default stats application for Wordpress.com users. A few months ago it was made available as a standalone plugin for wordpress.org users. But there were, and still are, restrictions.

You have to create a Wordpress.com account in order to view the stats on your self hosted blog and in the process you are redirected to Wordperss.com from your blog. This second step was a bit of a nusianance and after a few feature requests, the redirect has been done away with.

As of version 1.1, the stats are displayed within an iFrame on your dashboard. Thank jebus for that! The redirect was a bit of a nusiance to be honest and I’m sure it prevented a lot of people from getting the best out of this plugin.

I’ll be rediscovering Wordpress Stats the in the coming days as a result of this feature addition. Another interesting stats plugin is Counterize II, I haven’t used it yet though.
